The team suffered multiple breakages on the 37 days of racing on the first double point leg of the race. The new mission became get the boat to port safely after the lead became uncatchable, the repairs relentless, the tear and repair including sewing a huge section of the mainsail using almost every scrap of available material; the relief of hitting shore was evident.
The gap to first was widening and the the job list to get the race boat race ready was lengthy.
